AT & T unveils Android, Windows - PC Magazine phone plans

AT & T will introduce more Android phones with touch screens and keyboards of this year, starting with a slider from Pantech in early June, AT & T senior vice president of mobile devices, Jeff Bradley, said today.

GREAT DEALS ON ANDROID PHONES

The slider from Pantech phone will be followed by a "pleasant, large sliding screen side Android device;"It is an area that we must address, said Bradley.

Pantech phone is a "small cool device;" seems a bit a [Casio] G-choque... a little more in the open air and it is more resistant to a regulator of classical side, "said."

Windows phone, meanwhile, is "doing well" in AT & T, with the new HD7S HTC soon, said Bradley. The next round of phones on Windows, based on more advanced hardware to the present, come with the "Handle" software update more later this year.

"Mango is the next event." With the schedule of when was released [Windows phone] and handle synchronization, do not leave a natural period between when we could introduce an interim round of devices, "said Bradley." "We are working very, very actively with the ecosystem and Microsoft."

AT & T also plans to lift its block on downloading applications from different locations the Android Market, said Bradley. The first step is to enable Amazon Appstore, once AT & T phones can finally install applications downloaded from other locations. AT & T had its original position because he feared "bad apps" hurting the phone and the network, said Bradley.

"I think that we will be more open," said Bradley. "Above all we were concerned really from a standpoint of network bandwidth and a point of view of the customer experience by not having any mechanism to bring down a bad application." And it was the only way we could do so at the time in Google to take advantage of what [security] had in [the] Android market. We take much negative publicity to do so, but it is 100 per cent, driven by the desire to have the capacity of our network of support and to help our customers. "It really was".

AT & T has a very diverse operating systems of smartphone line-up at this time. Powered by HP WebOS Veer the company they go on sale on May 15. Bradley also expressed some enthusiasm for the new bold BlackBerry 9900, but to sell it. Until now, T-Mobile is the only U.S. carrier that has been said that it will sell the BlackBerry 9900.

The 5 best smartphones Android

Recently, we had a look at the 5 best Android phones coming out this summer and now, we present to you what we here at GBM think are the five best Android smartphones on the market right now for the four major carriers in the U.S .

>> Best Deals on Android Phones <<

There are some new phones and there is one on here that you might not have expected. Hint, it’s old. This list will likely change dramatically because of all of the new phones coming out this summer but for the month of May, these are five phones that we think should be on the top of your wish lists.

LG G2x

T-Mobile’s G2x, known outside the United States as the Optimus 2X, is a dual-core beast of a phone that should definitely be on the radar of those looking for a new Android device.

It has a fantastic 4-inch LCD display, HSPA+ 4G speeds and it has the ability to capture 1080p and 3D video which is something most top of the line smartphones aren’t able to do.

The G2x is $200 on a new two-year contract from T-Mobile but you can get it from Amazon for a mere $99. Not bad for a phone with these fantastic specifications.

Specifications: 4-inch LCD display with WVGA resolution (480 x 800), 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 8MP rear facing camera with 1080p video capture and 3D video, 1.3MP front facing camera, 8GB of on board storage, Bluetooth support, HDMI, DLNA, 1500 mAh battery

Operating System: Android 2.2 Froyo

Carrier: T-Mobile

4G: Yes, HSPA+

Release Date: April 15th, 2011

Droid Incredible 2

We recently previewed the HTC Droid Incredible 2, the successor of the wildly popular Droid Incredible, and came away very impressed. The increase in display size from 3.7 to 4-inches works well and doesn’t add any additional bulk.

Its single-core 1GHz processor is quick and it comes with almost an identical form factor to the original Droid Incredible.  Add in all the other bells and whistles and you have yourself a fantastic 3G phone.

The Droid Incredible 2 was released only a few weeks ago and it’s available for a mere $80 on a new contract.

Specifications: 4-inch LCD display (480 x 800), 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 8MP rear camera with 720p video capture, 1.3MP front facing camera, 768MB of RAM, 16GB of on board storage, Bluetooth 2.1, TV-Out, DLNA, 1450 mAh battery

Operating System: Android 2.2 Froyo

Carrier: Verizon

4G: No

Release Date: April 28th, 2011

Droid Incredible 2 Hands On:

Motorola Atrix 4G

The Motorola Atrix is the flagship Android device on AT&T and like the G2x, it can be considered a superphone because of the fantastic specifications it has on board. It packs a high-resolution display, dual-core processor and a massive battery to boot.

Throw in the other bells and whistles, including a recent upgrade to HSUPA speeds, and you have yourself a fantastic Android phone.

The Motorola Atrix 4G can be found for as low as $99 which is an absolute steal for such a gorgeous device.

Specifications: 4-inch qHD display (540 x 960), 1GHz dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, 5MP rear facing camera with 720p HD video capture, VGA front facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 15GB of on board storage, Bluetooth 2.1 w/ EDR, HDMI, DLNA, 1930 mAh battery

Operating System: Android 2.2 Froyo

Carrier: AT&T

4G: Yes, HSUPA

Release Date: February 2oth, 2011

HTC ThunderBolt

The HTC ThunderBolt is Verizon’s first 4G LTE smartphone and as of right now, it’s also the only 4G LTE smartphone on the market with the delay of the Samsung Droid Charge.

And while we think the Droid Charge gives the ThunderBolt a run for its money (see: battery life), it’s not out yet which means the HTC ThunderBolt easily makes this list.

The ThunderBolt is essentially an HTC EVO with 4G LTE speeds, which as you’ll see in a second, isn’t a bad thing whatsoever. The hardware is solid, the software as well and with an upgrade to Gingerbread coming in the not-so-distant future, the ThunderBolt is worthy of this list.

It’s currently available for $175 on a new two-year contract.

Specifications: 4.3-inch TFT display (480 x 800), 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8MP rear facing camera with 720p HD video recording and dual LED flash, 1.3MP front facing camera, 768MB of RAM, 8GB of on board storage, Bluetooth 2.1 w/ EDR, DLNA, 1400 mAh battery

Operating System: Android 2.2 Froyo

Carrier: Verizon

4G: Yes, LTE

Release Date: March 17th, 2011

HTC EVO 4G

Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G has been out for nearly a year and it still is arguably the best phone on the WiMax network. It has 4G speeds, a great screen, fantastic cameras, a solid battery, and Froyo.

Word to the wise though. The successor to the HTC EVO 4G, the HTC EVO 3D, is on its way which will quickly push this device out of the rankings. However, the original EVO will be getting Gingerbread in the future and its specifications are still solid a year later.

Old faithful can be yours for $120 on a new two year contract if you so wish. (Note: There’s a reason it’s still that expensive.)

Specifications: 4.3-inch TFT display (480 x 800), 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 8MP rear facing camera with 720p HD video recording and dual LED flash, 1.3MP front facing camera, 512MB of RAM, Bluetooth 2.1 w/ EDR, TV-Out, HDMI, 1500 mAh battery.

Operating System: Android 2.2 Froyo

Carrier: Sprint

4G: Yes, WiMax

New Android phones: HTC Thunderbolt, Samsung Galaxy S II, HTC sense

A few months have passed since I have provided an update on the latest Android phones and it seems that there are more new devices that I can count. Below are some that seem particularly interesting to me.

See the Android Phone in Action at Android Phone Review Videos

How to choose among all these devices? Here are some qualities that would look closely:

·         Size / weight. How is mobile really the smartphone? Some of Android phones now are getting quite big, and less to think about watching video or playing regularly in them, perhaps you prefer something smaller.

·         Processing speed. Many of the latest smartphones sport dual-core, which is ideal for advanced users. But the downside is that this usually means that less battery, in addition the device will be probably heat faster. So you have to weigh the pros and cons.

·         Version of Android. Fragmentation is a major problem. Make sure your essential applications to work with the version of Android is going to get.

·         Carrier. The majority of Android smartphones come only from one or two companies, many users choose the company want to first and then a smartphone that is available on the network.

Following the presentation of slides are additional details on each phone.

The beam of the HTC is the first smartphone offered new 4 G LTE network of Verizon, so it will be a great boost in data loading and unloading speeds if you are in an area where the LTE network is available. An interesting feature is an option "Fast boot", which puts the phone in a resting State, rather than close entirely. The result is 9 seconds with 58 seconds starts normally, according to Engadget. A disadvantage is that it has only a single core processor.

Specifications include: 2.2 Android with HTC Sense, 4.3 "touch screen, 1 GHz Qualcomm processor, 32 GB SD, 1400mAh, 8 Megapixels, HD video capture."

The device also has a kickstand, which I think is a great idea if you want to keep the device in your pocket and on your desktop all day.

Only 8.5 mm wide and 116 g, Samsung Galaxy S II is one of the smartphones more and more in the market. Samsung is also an innovator with its AMOLED screen, that rings true with this updated model (called "Super amoled Plus"), so a top screen. It also has a dual-core processor.

Specifications include: 2.3 Android, 4.3 "touch screen, processor 1.2 GHz dual - core, 116 g, 16 and 32 GB of internal storage, 1650mAh battery, 8 more frontal megapixel camera of 2 megapixel camera and HD video."

The G2x of T-Mobile is the first smartphone from T-Mobile available with dual-core processor. Respondents is agree that is one of the best, if not the best, T-Mobile smartphone currently on the market. Battery life is surprisingly good for a device of 4 G, especially with a dual-core processor. One of the biggest drawbacks is probably Android 2.2 (Froyo).

Specifications include: Android 2.2, 4 "touch screen, dual-core Tegra 2 GHz processor 1, 142 g, 8 GB of internal storage, battery of 1500mAh, 8 megapixel more in front of 1.3 megapixels, HD video."

HTC sense will be available this summer. It will be available in the T-Mobile 4 G network and offers a processor dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon. With HTC sense 3.0 will come new versions also, like HTC Watch, a service to download DVD quality movies and watch them on the phone or output to the television.

Specifications include: 2.3 Android with HTC sense 3.0, 4.3 "touch screen, dual-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon, g 148, SD 32 GB, 1520mAh, 8 megapixel camera and front camera, HD video battery."

New phone Android of ATandT

If the Android phone was a child, after AT & T perceived lack of commitment to the platform should be the subject of a profound reassessment of their relationship.

Selection underwhelming at & T's Android phones is historically as the equivalent of carrier to a generic greeting with message hand-written card. Add AT & T more serious progress towards sexy for Apple iPhone and one could even say that it was a breakdown in order.

Until now.

With the Samsung Galaxy S Captivate, AT & T finally has a superphone in good faith to enhance his previously lukewarm Android offering. Is this enough to get the girl - or a consumer Android lovers?

The physicist

I did not was feeling quite the look of the version of AT & T of the Galaxy S at the beginning. At the time, however, began to grow on me.

Elegant design of Captivate feels thin with tapered sides. 4 Inches sports Gorilla glass display a resolution of 480 by 800 pixels and it is easily one of the best I've seen, the Super AMOLED display is very beautiful. Visibility of the screen has a hit of vampire under direct sunlight, however. Weightwise, 4.5 ounces of Captivate is slightly lighter than an iPhone 4.

The brain drain

Processor 1 GHz of Captivate is pleasant and zippy and runs the Android 2.1 OS quite well.

You have means Android will get a proven OS that integrates well with Google as Google Maps and Gmail offers. Fans of networks and social media will also like Nice synergy of Captivate with Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Yes, people, post a sensible message or video that you might have problems is easier that never with this phone so be sure to dismiss the liquor to do it, OK?

Also carries out the Captivate 3.0 skin has been customized for Samsung for the Android OS. While typical consumers no matter their additional bells and whistles, tinkerers of gadget that they hate pejorative and know their way around values Android probably won't be so happy.

The skin of a manufacturer also means that it is mercy of Samsung for OS upgrades. An update to Android 2.2 is coming but Samsung doesn't guarantee anything after that.

Characteristics and performance

The battery of the Captivate is excellent and easily lasted one day of normal use. This includes some navigation on the Web and social networks also liberal use of GPS.

Talk to the Captivate time coincidence of the six hours of Samsung. The call quality is clear in ideal reception, but an audio quality is a bit light in normal configuration. Sound while browsing is also not as strong in maximum volume as some other smart phones I've tried.

Captivate touchscreen keyboard is one of the best I've seen so far and is made even more by the inclusion of Swype. Pictures through the camera of 5 Megapixels are good but not great. Shots at night and low light taken above all a success, which is aggravated by the lack of a flash.

Video capture, on the other hand, is excellent and arrives until 720 p high-def. colors are not quite as saturated as the iPhone 4 – which can be good or bad, depending on your point of view. Video quality still suffers indoors in low light, however.

GPS navigation has the bad habit of "return to calculate" Midway of routes and provide directions wrong, only to return to calculate again and return to the original correct orientation. This happened with AT & T and Google navigation programs, so I'm not sure if this is a problem of network or device.

Still, with the addition of the Galaxy S Captivate, AT & T has been more than simply giving chocolates to now introduce Android to her mom. Talk to obtain stronger on the potential arrival of the iPhone on Verizon, to add good phones Android is certainly a step in the right direction.

The S Captivate not only the best Android phone on AT & T stable now. I believe that it is also one of the best Android phones in any company.
